About Janet Media Group

An independent publisher of focused product-guide sites, owned and run by Janet H.

Who We Are

Janet Media Group is a digital publisher: a company that creates and runs its own websites. Ours is a family of product-guide sites, and each one is devoted to a single category of things people buy for their homes, their families, their time outdoors and themselves.

The portfolio is built on one idea. A site that tries to cover everything tends to cover each thing lightly. A site that covers one category can stay with it: learn how the products in it actually differ, read the manuals and specifications, follow the safety standards and recall notices that apply, and explain the trade-offs that decide whether a purchase works out. So each Janet Media Group site takes one subject and nothing else, from bath towels to action cameras to hair care.

This site is the hub for all of them. Every site in the portfolio links back here, so wherever you found us you can see who publishes the site, the rules it follows and how to reach the person responsible. You can browse every site on the portfolio page.

The Owner

Janet H. is the hands-on owner behind Janet Media Group. She is the person accountable for the standards on this site and for every site in the portfolio, and questions and corrections sent through this site go to her. You can read more on her profile page.

What the Portfolio Covers

The portfolio is planned at twenty sites across five groups. Every one of them is in development right now and marked "Launching soon"; each gets a live link the day it launches.

The Rules Every Site Follows

The rules are written down so you can hold every site to them. In short:

  • Independence. Commissions never decide what gets recommended. The recommendation comes first; the link comes second. The full policy is in our editorial standards.
  • Hands-on testing where possible. When a site has used a product, it says so specifically. When it has not, it says that plainly and shows what the pick is based on. The shared method is laid out in how we choose.
  • Named sources. Facts come from primary sources where they exist: manufacturer specifications, regulators and standards bodies. See our sourcing rules.
  • Disclosure next to the links. Every page with affiliate links says so near those links, in line with the FTC's Endorsement Guides. Our affiliate disclosure explains how that works.
  • Corrections in the open. Errors are fixed and noted on the page. Here is how to report one.

What We Are Not

Janet Media Group is not a store. None of our sites sells products directly, and this hub site sells nothing and carries no affiliate links. We are not owned by, and do not speak for, any manufacturer or retailer whose products appear on our sites. And we do not publish customer testimonials or star ratings we cannot stand behind; if a site shows a rating or a test result, it came from real use or from a source the page names.

How to Reach Us

The simplest way is email: janet.hoyo@yahoo.com. You can also use the form on the contact page. Reader questions, corrections and partnership notes are all welcome. For quick answers to common questions, see the FAQ.

About Us: Common Questions

Who owns the Janet Media Group sites?

Every site in the portfolio is owned and published by Janet Media Group, which is owned and run by Janet H. The sites are not owned by any retailer or by the brands they write about.

Is Janet Media Group affiliated with the brands its sites cover?

No. The sites are independently owned by Janet Media Group. They may earn affiliate commissions from retailers when a reader buys through a link, and they disclose that on the page where the links appear, but no brand owns or directs a Janet Media Group site.

How do the portfolio sites make money?

Mainly through affiliate commissions: when you buy through a link on one of our sites, the retailer may pay the site a small fee. Your price does not change, and the commission does not decide which product is recommended. This site, the hub, carries no affiliate links at all.

How can I tell if a product guide site is legit?

Look for a named, reachable owner, a clear explanation of how the site makes money, disclosures next to the links, and honesty about what was and was not tested. Janet Media Group publishes all four on this site so you can check every one of our sites against them.
